At the border, or just before, you will find offices selling automobile insurance for Mexico. The most popular one for ease of use and probably the most visible on is Sanborn's. You may use Google to find any number of other companies offering Mexican policies. As you know, you must have separate insurance for Mexico, issued by a Mexican underwriter. You may also find that a six month policy will cost as much as two months, if a shorter term is even available. You'll have to shop around to find the best combination of price, terms and coverage. Be sure to get road service and the 'get out of jail' legal coverage.
