Hello, there, from a fellow American (by way of West Virginia)! I'm afraid Burriana Babs is correct. The only other alternatives you have is to try for some sort of Work Visa (which you have found out can be very hard to get without a workplace over here already sponsoring you) or Bunac. Other than that marriage is your only option. Even if you were to get just a Fiance visa you wouldn't be allowed to work while on it. Sorry to be such a bearer of bad news. I do hope it works out for you somehow!!
