Larnaca City Guide

Larnaca is one of the major east coast cities in Cyprus. This is home to the country’s major international airport, the Larnaca International Airport.

Based from the 2001 Census, Larnaca has a total population of only 72,000. This city is Cyprus’ second commercial port, and a popular tourist resort. The North of Larnaca is where the oil refinery of Cyprus is found, while at its south is the Larnaca International Airports.

 

This small city is widely known for having the most picturesque sea-fronts that include rows and rows of palm trees. Although famous for its stunning resorts, other important activity in the city is the Kataklysmos Festival which is normally celebrated during the early parts of summer in the city, and is welcomed by a series of unique and entertaining cultural events.

Residential Places in Larnaca

Since Larnaca is a coastal area, most the elegant residential areas are villas and resort-type homes. These are perfect for possible expatriates who are looking for a haven of relaxation by the beach. There are also apartments, villages, subdivisions, and other real estate properties that can make comfortable residential places.

Hospitals and Universities in Larnaca

Larnaca has six colleges and universities that offer varied programs and degrees. These six include the CDA College, the RZ Hairdressing School, Larnaca Intercollege, the Larnaca Computer International, the Larnaca PA College, and the Larnace Alexander College.

CDA College

This College offers programs such as information and communications technology, travel and tourism, business studies, interior design, architectural drawing, and secretarial studies.

R & Z Hair and Beauty Techniques

This is a school found in Larnaca that offers different courses to interested hairdressers. Just founded in 1989, this hairdressing school is run by hairdressing experts under strict European standards. The courses are generally divided into three different sections: the Beginner’s Course, Advanced Level Course, and the Special Course.

Larnaca Intercollege

This is another school that offer different undergraduate studies that include business, education, science, and liberal arts. Additionally, undergraduate programs are offered in special education and business, international relations, sociology, and psychology.

Computer International

This school offers programmes that are mostly computer related. Courses include computer engineering, computer science, information and communication technology, and computer technology.

PA College

This is a private college of Higher Education based in Larnaca, Cyprus. Their academic programs include business administration, business computing, business administration, computing and information system, business and information technology, law, banking and accounting.

Alexander College

Courses offered at the Alexander College include one year intensive English class, Art and Designs, Business and Finance, Graphic Design, Garden Design, and Interior Design.

Commercial Places in Larnaca

Since Larnaca is a tourist spot, you can find a lot commercial spaces in this small city. They have malls, restaurants and bars that can cater to your every whim. To find the best restaurants in Larnaca, simply walk along and for sure you can find restaurants packed not only with tourists, but also of locals.

Militizis

This has been in Larnaca for quite a long time already, serving their clients with honest Cypriot fare. Their potatoes and meat are washed with their very own wide. Although the presentation is not that impressive, their meals still taste the best. Their often-packed restaurant is enough to tell what a favourite restaurant they are.

Hobo’s

This is a lively café and restaurants very popular among locals and tourists. This place is one place you dare not miss. The food is great, normally ranging from the simple Cypriot delicacies, to the most delicious International Cuisines.

Kantara, Rendez- Vous, Ganga Restaurants

These are all located along the Dhekelia Strip, the place where to find for the best Larnaca restaurants. These restaurants though are more expensive than the others but well worth your money. Rendez-Vous and Kantar have very good options of International Wines.

Club Memphis

If you love bar-hopping and clubbing, don’t miss Club Memphis and Scaliano. These are popular night spots in Larnaca very popular among tourists.

Blue Pine Bar

Very near the American Academy, the Blue Pine Bar offers a huge option of spirits and its atmosphere is totally relaxing, perfect after a long day’s touring pleasures. The bar, with Rhythm and Blues as the background music, comes alive usually past ten in the evening.

Things to do in Larnaca

Larnaca is a destination for divers because of the wreck of the Zenobia. This is a ferry that sunk on her maiden voyage way back 1980 just a few meters from the harbour because of a faulty ballast computer. The ferry back then was fully loaded with trucks and other cargoes.

Just some few minutes away from Larnaca is a village called Lefkara, which is very famous for its silverware and laces. Since Larnaca is the nearest bigger town from the village, these products are sold at very affordable rates. Aside from that, you can also find watchmakers and individual jewellers where you can buy genuine jewellery pieces at very affordable prices. Oro Fino Jewellery, a jewellery store that sells Greek and Italian design jewellery pieces, zircons, diamond, semi precious and precious stones.

Service Establishments in Larnaca

The telecommunication companies in Larnaca are already providing the more modern telecommunication systems. Internet is also available in this city, along with mobile and cellular phones. As for the security, police stations are visible in most crowded places to ensure safety on the locals and the tourists. Larnaca has a very low crime rate, this is partly because of the discipline of the locals. The people in Larnaca are very hospitable and friendly, ever ready to assist tourist and visitors in any cases.

Embassies in Larnaca

The Embassies in Cyprus are mostly found in their capital city which is Nikosia. To find your local embassy, it is advised to seek help from your travel agency or in tourism offices of Larnaca.

Larnaca is indeed a haven of relaxation and comfort. With rich historical background, friendly people, lively nightlife, and affordable food, this place is certainly a place that you can call your home away from home.
