Agia Napa City Guide

Agia Napa is a resort town located at the eastern end of the south coast of Cyprus that has in recent years blossomed into one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Originally a fishing village with very few inhabitants, Agia Napa has reinvented itself into vibrant party capital that can rival even the most dynamic cities in the world.

In spite of this, Agia Napa has retained much of its natural beauty and the endless stretches of golden sand beaches serve as a gorgeous backdrop for the town’s wealth of cultural and historic attractions, which include a marine life museum and the Ayia Napa Monastery, which lends an air of serene majesty to an otherwise lively and energetic town.

Residential Places in Agia Napa

The Cyprus legal system–and by extension the real estate laws–is based on the British model, so the process of buying property in Agia Napa should be fairly straightforward for British nationals.

Service Establishments of Agia Napa

Virtually all of the telecommunications needs of Agia Napa–and of Cyprus in fact–is handled by the government owned telecommunications company called Cyta. They also provide Internet connection services all over the country. Cyta has a standing agreement with all the major UK mobile telephone networks, so you can use your own telephone in Cyprus, provided you have GSM/roaming capability.

Cyprus actually ranks third in the world in terms of quality of telecommunications services, and they are one of the lowest priced providers around. The standard Internet connection protocols such as ISDN, ADSL and dial-up are also very reasonably priced and widely available.

The recent liberalization of the laws governing the industry has brought about the emergence of several private telecommunications service providers, among them MTN, TelePassport, Cablenet, PrimeTel and OTEnet Telecom.

There are currently 6 local television stations that you can access from Agia Napa free of charge. About 30% of the programs featured are in English and they also air foreign films in the original language with Greek subtitles. You can also sign up with the LTV cable television service, which will allow you access to US and UK programs. In addition, there are several satellite television service providers around, of which Sky is the largest.

There is a British Forces Radio station that broadcasts around the clock in addition to the many local radio stations that broadcast in English or Greek. There are also two local English language newspapers, and to keep you from missing home, you can get almost all the major UK newspapers, albeit a day late.
